Grants

North side of TrongateGrants are available from the Merchant City Townscape Heritage Initiative to encourage building owners where grant assistance is required to enable an appropriate standard of repairs, re-use and upgrading to take place. All repairs will be to the highest standards of craftsmanship and design.

Grants are targeted at buildings within the 'area of need' as accepted by the Heritage Lottery Fund. This area is shown below and concentrates on the Trongate
and surrounding areas and is bounded by Glassford St/ Stockwell St to the west, the river to the south, High Street and Saltmarket to the east and George St to the north .

What is eligible for Grant Assistance
Five categories of project are eligible for grant assistance from the THI if they fall within the area of need. More information is available
in the Guidence Notes below. This information can only be read using Adobe Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded by clicking on the icon below.

In all the above applicants for grant aid will be expected to have already applied to any other appropriate grant sources and have confirmed their own capital contribution. They will be approaching the THI for partnership funding to meet an element still remaining - the conservation deficit. This will normally be based on the difference between works to a suitably high standard and the before and after value of the property.

Grant applications for works which have already taken place will not be considered. Relevant planning and conservation consents will require to be in place before applications can be formally processed.
