It seems like only yesterday but already the nights are drawing in and its almost that time of year when tinsel should be dusted down, baubles polished up + an air of increasing panic will grip shoppers......

But now for the really good news. Its Christmas Window Dressing time again!

The hard working shops, businesses and venues of the Merchant City can enjoy some light relief by taking part in this year’s Christmas Window Dressing Competition. For the first time this will also feature as part of the City’s major Festival of Light - Radiance - which is set to dazzle the city centre over the weekend of November 23rd to 25th November 2007. The theme this year is Light and how it can be used in a festive, creative and humourous way to showcase the best of the Merchant City offering. All shops, businesses, offices and venues in the Merchant City are eligible and invited to enter.

Entry is simple simple: - complete the form below and email before 5pm Friday November 16th 2007. Any business, office, venue or shop which is based in the Merchant City may enter and there will be special awards for those entries using lighting to achieve the best ‘Ho, Ho Ho’ and ‘Festive Cheer’ factors! Window displays must be complete by 12 Noon on Friday 23rd November when the judging will take place, to coincide with the Radiance ’switch on’. The results will be announced on Monday 26th November with seasonal hampers awarded to the winner and two runners up.

RULES OF ENTRY: ELIGIBILITY
1. All businesses, shops and offices within the Merchant City may enter the competition.
2. The display should be in the main window of the premises and be visually accessible at all reasonable times.
3. All entries must be made using the official form. (Photocopies of this form are acceptable) .All entries must be received by 17.00 Friday 16th November 2007.All displays must be in place by Noon Friday 23rd November 2007.
4. Judging will be carried out by a panel consisting of Merchant City Initiative Director, Liz Davidson; Bailie Gordon Matheson, Glasgow City Council; Tam Coyle, Secretary of Merchant City Community Council, and Maggie Kinloch Director of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. No internal access to premises entering in the competition will be required, judging will be from the street.
5. The judges decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
